Privacy Policy

This explains what data GeoKeys collects, why, and what you can do about it. GeoKeys is operated by a sole proprietor in South Africa and processes personal information under the Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA).

This is a good-faith, plain-language policy written to be understood. It is not legal advice.

What we collect

We keep data collection to a minimum. Specifically:

  • Basic site analytics — pages viewed, approximate region (country or city level, from your IP), device and browser type, and referring source. This is aggregate and is not used to identify you personally.
  • Details you volunteer — if you email us or use a contact form, we receive whatever you send: your name, email address, and message.

We do not ask for, or knowingly collect, sensitive personal information, and the site is not directed at children.

TikTok data

GeoKeys operates an internal content-scheduling tool that connects to the GeoKeys TikTok account through TikTok's official API. This section explains exactly what that tool does and does not do:

  • Through TikTok Login Kit, the tool accesses basic profile information (user.info.basic) solely to confirm that the correct account — the GeoKeys account — is connected.
  • Through the Content Posting API (video.upload), the tool uploads GeoKeys' own finished videos to that same GeoKeys account.
  • The tool is used by the account owner, for their own account only. It does not access, collect, or store data belonging to any other TikTok user.
  • TikTok data is never sold, shared, or used for advertising.
  • Access tokens are stored securely and can be revoked at any time, either from the GeoKeys TikTok account settings or by contacting us.

Cookies and analytics

The site uses privacy-conscious analytics to understand traffic and improve what we publish. We use only the cookies or local storage needed to run the site and measure aggregate usage — no advertising or cross-site tracking cookies. You can block or clear cookies in your browser at any time; the site will still work.

Legal basis and purpose

Under POPIA, we process personal information on these bases:

  • Legitimate interest — running, securing, and improving the site through aggregate analytics.
  • Consent — when you choose to contact us, so we can reply.

We only use your information for the purpose you gave it. We don't repurpose it for something unrelated.

Data retention

We keep email and contact-form correspondence for up to 24 monthsafter our last exchange, then delete it unless we're legally required to keep it longer. Aggregate analytics are retained for up to 26 months. TikTok access tokens are kept only while the tool is actively connected and are deleted on revocation.

No sale or sharing

We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it with third parties for their marketing. We use a small number of service providers (for example, website hosting, analytics, and email delivery) that process data only on our behalf and only to run the site.

Your POPIA rights

You have the right to:

  • Access — ask what personal information we hold about you.
  • Correction — ask us to fix information that's wrong or outdated.
  • Deletion — ask us to delete your information.
  • Objection — object to how we process it.

To exercise any of these, email phelelanim8@gmail.com and we'll respond within a reasonable time. You also have the right to complain to South Africa's Information Regulator.
